You may have heard the first single “Disappearing,” which I released this past fall.  Now it’s time now to let you in on the rest of the music.

Love Without Fear is an album about feeling alone, about desperately wishing for connection and togetherness, and about finding those things and what that means.  The sound of the record lives at the intersection of Americana and Beatles-influenced rock and roll; it’s got a little bit of twang and a lot of cinematic emotion. I had a lot of fun taking a break from co-writing to write and record my own solo music for a change, and I’m excited to get it into your hands and headphones.

I recorded the album in Minneapolis and Los Angeles and I was fortunate enough to have some of my amazing musician friends contribute their talents to it, like Blake Mills and Sean Watkins on guitar as well as Sara Bareilles, Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks), Missy Higgins, Lissie and Sara Watkins helping out on vocals.

When you pre-order the album on Pledge, it ensures that you’ll receive it first.  Your pledge will also get you access to some pretty special content that I’ve created for you: album artwork reveals, live videos, and a first look at my handwritten note pages from the special Book/CD packaging.

For the final installment of this year’s “Songs From the Ballroom” series I’m sending you exclusive alternate versions of two songs that will be on my new album, to be released in the spring. This album has given me the chance to make my own personal and intimate musical statement after several years of crazy, fun and sometimes very beautiful collaborations. I can’t wait for you to hear what I’ve done.

I’ve returned recently to my long practice of pen-and-ink drawing. I used to emulate and idolize Edward Gorey and R. Crumb, and I still do. Drawing is a little like meditation – you can happily lose yourself in it. What a natural combination of things I do! Why didn’t I think of this before? “Disappearing” feels like the perfect introduction to my upcoming album. After these past years of intensive collaboration, I wanted to hear what the music in my own head sounded like. So I went into hiding for several months and emerged with the most lonesome and personal-sounding music that I’ve made in a long time. I can’t wait for you to hear the full record, which will be released in the spring.
