A Song Can Be About Anything
Review of Sufjan Stevens – Carrie & Lowell
Talkhouse Music asked me to review an upcoming album release that I was excited about, and I jumped at the chance to talk about Sufjan Steven‘s newest record, Carrie & Lowell. I have a long history of admiration of Sufjan’s music and this new material is a deeply moving collection of lyrically unrestrained songwriting and understated grooves. February Shows – a few tickets left!
Friends and fans,
Just a quick note to let you know that tickets for my east coast “Words & Music by Dan Wilson” shows are going fast! In fact, we just released a few more tickets for my Boston show, which was previously sold out. So, if you haven’t had a chance to pick any up for yourself yet, there are still some available at the links below.
I’m also really excited to share that my friend and talented singer-songwriter Jenny Owen Youngs will be joining me for the New York and Philadelphia dates. If you’ve never heard her music before, I’d highly recommend giving her a listen. I should also mention that my usual co-conspirator and wonderful accompanist, Brad Gordon, will be on all three dates contributing his talents on piano, various wind instruments, and maybe even a bit of phone synthesizer, if we’re lucky!
February 26 – City Winery – New York, NY – with Jenny Owen Youngs
February 27 – Cafe 939 – Boston, MA
February 28 – World Cafe Live – Philadelphia, PA – with Jenny Owen Youngs
My Illustrated Lyric Videos
Some of the work that I’m the most happy about from the last year are the three illustrated lyric videos that I made for songs from my latest solo album, Love Without Fear. I know a lot of you have seen the videos for “Disappearing” and “A Song Can Be About Anything” already, and now I’ve released a new one for my song “Love Without Fear.” I love seeing them side by side. Creating these pieces was a completely new kind of challenge for me, surprisingly complex and difficult but very fun.
Any ideas for what the next illustrated lyric video could be? Comments? Suggestions?
